Deoghar — literally the "abode of the gods" — is home to Baba Baidyanath Dham, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The main shrine stands inside a walled complex with 21 more temples around it, and local tradition also honours it as a Shakti Peeth. Every year in the month of Shravan (July–August), millions of Kanwariyas walk about 105 km barefoot from Sultanganj on the Ganga, chanting "Bol Bam", to offer holy water here. The rest of the year Deoghar is a calmer pilgrim town — and a comfortable one-day drive from Kolkata.
For families, elderly parents and groups, a private cab is the simplest way to do this yatra: no train ticket hunt, no change at Jasidih, a pre-dawn start from your own doorstep, and the freedom to add Basukinath, Tapovan or Trikut Pahar on the same trip.
Most people searching "Kolkata to Deoghar" are comparing a train, a flight and a car. All three work — they suit different travellers:
| Option | Best for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Train (Howrah → Jasidih) | One or two travellers with a confirmed ticket | Jasidih is about 7 km from the temple, so you still need a local ride. Seats sell out fast in Shravan and on Mahashivratri. |
| Flight (Kolkata → Deoghar Airport) | Short trips when the fare is right | The airport is about 9 km from town. Luggage limits apply, and Basukinath still needs a separate cab. |
| Private cab (EasyGoCab) | Families, elderly pilgrims, groups of 3–7, Basukinath add-on | Door-to-door from any Kolkata address, one price for the whole car, stops when you want, and the same driver for the return. |
For four people, one cab fare split four ways is often close to the cost of four train tickets plus local autos — with far less effort, especially with elderly family members or heavy puja luggage.
The first 200 km are the same on every route: the fast, divided NH19 from Dankuni past Shaktigarh, Bardhaman, Panagarh and Durgapur to Asansol. After Asansol, drivers use one of two common roads into Jharkhand and choose on the day, based on road work, traffic and weather:
Coming from Tarapith? Many pilgrims combine the two. From Tarapith the road runs through Rampurhat and Dumka to Basukinath and Deoghar — tell us at booking and we will quote the full Kolkata → Tarapith → Deoghar circuit. See our Kolkata to Tarapith cab page for the first leg.
Good breaks on the way: Shaktigarh (about 70 km, famous for Langcha), Bardhaman (about 120 km) and the Durgapur–Asansol stretch for a proper meal. After the border, food stops are fewer, so a full breakfast before Asansol is a good idea.
EasyGoCab shows the full price before you book. Tolls, the Jharkhand state tax and permit, driver allowance and GST are inside the quote — nothing to pay at a toll booth or at the border, and nothing added at the end. Once you confirm, the fare is locked.
