Darjeeling 3 Nights 4 Days Itinerary: Mirik, Lamahatta & Kurseong
This is the route most travellers ask for: up to Darjeeling through the tea gardens and lake of Mirik, a full sunrise and city day, a quiet village day at Lamahatta, and down through Kurseong on the way home. Times are a guide; your driver adjusts them to traffic, weather and queues.
Day 1 — NJP / Bagdogra to Darjeeling via Mirik (about 100 km, 5–6 hours with stops)
- Pickup at NJP station, Bagdogra airport or your Siliguri hotel — we track your train or flight.
- Gopaldhara and Mirik tea gardens — photo stops among the terraced estates.
- Mirik Lake (Sumendu Lake) — walk the lakeside path and the footbridge; boating and pony rides are paid on the spot.
- Optional: Simana viewpoint over the Nepal hills, and Pashupati Market across the border (carry a passport or voter ID).
- Evening — reach Darjeeling, check in, and walk to the Mall and Chowrasta.
Day 2 — Tiger Hill sunrise and Darjeeling city tour

Tiger Hill, 11 km from Darjeeling at about 2,590 m, is the highest point in the Darjeeling hills and the reason most people set an alarm for 3:30 AM. On a clear morning the first light turns Kanchenjunga pink, then gold.
- Vehicle passes are limited. Only a fixed number of tourist cars may go up each morning, and passes are issued the day before. Self-drive and rental cars are not allowed. Your driver collects the pass for your car.
- Start time: leave between 3:30 and 4:15 AM, depending on the season — sunrise is earliest in May–June and latest in December–January.
- Fees: a small forest entry fee per person, and a seat charge if you use the viewing tower; the open terrace beside it is free but colder.
- Crowds: in season, cars queue and you may walk the last stretch uphill. Arrive early for a good spot.
- Weather: the sunrise is never guaranteed. October–November and March–May give the clearest mornings; June to September is usually cloudy.
- Wear warm clothes — it is near freezing before dawn for much of the year.
Darjeeling Toy Train: Joyride Fares and Booking
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, runs short joyrides from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back, with halts at the Batasia Loop and the Ghoom railway museum. Toy train tickets are not part of any car package, but we plan your day around the ride.
- Darjeeling–Ghoom diesel joyride: about ₹800 per person, several departures a day in season.
- Steam rides cost more — the Kurseong steam special was about ₹1,530 in 2026.

How to Reach: NJP, Bagdogra, Siliguri and Kolkata
- By train to NJP: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the main station for Darjeeling, about 70 km and 3–3.5 hours by car. From Kolkata, overnight trains such as the Darjeeling Mail and Padatik Express arrive in the morning.
- By air to Bagdogra: Bagdogra airport (IXB) is about 70 km from Darjeeling, with flights from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other cities.
- From Siliguri: we can start and end the tour at your Siliguri hotel instead of the station or airport.

Plan your arrival for the morning if you choose the Mirik route on Day 1 — it is a long, beautiful day and best done in daylight.
Where to Stay in Darjeeling
We do not add a markup on hotels: you book directly and pay the hotel's own rate. When you book your car, we send suggestions for your dates and budget. What to consider:
- The Mall and Chowrasta area: walkable to cafés and shops, but cars cannot reach many hotels here — expect a short walk with luggage.
- Hill Cart Road and Gandhi Road: car access to the door, easier for seniors and families with luggage.
- Ghoom and Jorebunglow: quieter, closer to Tiger Hill for the early start.
- Village homestays (Sittong, Dawaipani, Lamahatta): simple rooms, home-cooked meals, big views; book early in October–November.
Ask for a room heater in winter — many hotels charge for it separately. Your driver's night halt is part of our tour price.
Darjeeling Travel Tips
- Pack warm layers all year: a jacket for Tiger Hill and the evenings, and rain gear from June to September.
- Avoid Thursday for the city tour — the zoo and HMI are closed. We plan around it.
- Carry ID — a passport or voter ID is needed to cross into Pashupati Market on the Nepal border.
- Carry some cash for entry tickets, boating, parking at viewpoints and village homestays; card payment is not accepted everywhere.
- Car sickness: the hill roads are full of bends — eat light before long drives and ask the driver to stop if needed.
- Monsoon travel: roads can close for a few hours after heavy rain; keep a buffer before your train or flight home.
- Be kind to the hills: carry your plastic back and avoid loud music in villages and monasteries.

Which car should I choose — sedan, Innova or Innova Crysta?
A sedan (Dzire or Etios) suits up to four people with light luggage. An Innova seats six to seven and has more boot space. The Innova Crysta is newer and more comfortable on long hill drives, which matters on the Mirik and offbeat routes. For the Sittong road in the monsoon, we recommend an Innova.
How many days are enough for Darjeeling?
Three nights and four days is ideal for most travellers: it covers Tiger Hill, the city sights, Mirik and a village day without rushing. Two nights is enough only for the main sights. Add a day or two for Kalimpong, Sittong or Dawaipani, or extend to Gangtok.
What is the best time to visit Darjeeling?
October to early December and March to May give the clearest views of Kanchenjunga. June to September is the monsoon, with mist, rain and lower prices. December to February is cold but often clear.
Is Tiger Hill included, and is the sunrise guaranteed?
Yes, the Tiger Hill sunrise is part of every package, and the driver arranges the vehicle pass. Passes are limited each day, so book early in season. The sunrise depends on the weather and can never be guaranteed; entry fees are paid on the spot.
Is the toy train included?
No. Toy train tickets are booked separately on IRCTC; the Darjeeling–Ghoom diesel joyride costs about ₹800 per person. We plan your day around the ride, usually on the free morning.
Can I start the tour from Kolkata?
